Banksy in NOLA
On my last New Orleans visit I was able to check out some of the few remaining works by controversial street artist Banksy. Over all I don't think New Orleans natives really grasped the whole Banksy thing- how many people follow his work and what an impact it makes on the world. Personally I felt it was an honor for him to give us these works- that would been seen by millions, and helped spread word of our situation. Clearly others felt differently:
The original work on an abandoned building (coincidentally a building where my mother once worked):
and what it looks like now:
I dont really get why an Obama supporter would cover this..

Where the Wild Things Are Movie!
I am beyond excited!!!!!!!! The movie is going to be directed by Spike Jonze and the stills look AMAZING. It is coming out in October- before I knew the movie was coming out I was totally going to go as one of the monsters this Halloween but something tells me wouldn't be the only one.
Here is a cute video of the original book:

Warhol Polaroids
@ Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York, they are displaying a selection of 70 Still-Life Polaroids by Andy Warhol. Depicting a set of assorted objects taken by Warhol between 1977 and 1983, the exhibition captures a mass variety of subjects such as ballet shoes, eggs, knives, guns, perfume bottles and other commercial products as his ironic soup can. Prospect 1. New Orleans
I'm finally home- and finally able to see some of the works exhibited in Prospect 1. scattered throughout New Orleans. What I've see so far looked pretty good.
Here's a picture of the Arc in the 9th ward:
I was also thrilled to come across Deborah Luster, a photographer who I did a workshop with at NOCCA. At the time she had just finished her "One Big Self" project photographing Louisiana inmates. It was probably one of the most moving bodies of work I have ever seen and I still reference it today. Her new body of work was a series of locations in New Orleans where murder has taken place. Unfortunately I cant find any pictures of her new work on the web- but I'm sure she'll be showing across the country after PS 1. ends.
Below are a portrait from the "One Big Self" project as well as another New Orleans portrait project:
